Skills Development proposes new projects
The idea for the project “Skills Development in Mozambique” was developed through 4 years of work with civil society, poor communities and craftsmen in the informal sector followed by surveys and case work aiming at testing some of the project assumption.
The project seeks to contribute both to the implementation of the United Nations 2015 Development Goals and to Danida’s “Partnership 2000”. The upgrading of informal sector businesses constitutes a major factor in the struggle to eradicate poverty. And the utilization of ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) holds the promise of an effective means of communication and cooperation between North and South and provides solutions for networking between professionals in the South.
The project recommends the development of appropriate solutions and tools, training of informal sector operators and the use of ICT in order to make information and teaching materials available to workers in the field. The project depends on the establishment of a direct interchange of information between Danish technical schools and skilled workers and Mozambican craftsmen; and on the direct collaboration of BISU and Kukumbi for the implementation of training activities. Centred on this double-branched core of training activities and utilization of ICT, the project integrates gender equality and HIV/AIDS as cross-cutting issues, and will seek to enlist the contribution of trade unions in raising awareness of labour issues, hereby contributing to the integration of informal workers in the formal economy.
